The minimalist and functional design was a revolution back then. Instead of the usual steel, the architect and designer Alvar Aalto used birch wood, which is abundantly available in Finland. For this reason, the extraordinary stool was also affordable for poorer families. And to continue the tradition, Artek still produces the stool 60 from curved, solid birch veneer. The wood is bent using a method specially developed by Aalto, the legs and seat are glued together in such a way that they form a visual unit.
