The Iittala glass bird collection, designed by Oiva Toika, combines Toika's deep relationship with nature and her passion for blowing art glass. Each glass bird is a unique work of art down to the last detail. The handmade Birds by Toikka birds are mouth-blown at the Iittala glass factory. The collection shows a strong tradition of glass manufacturing and the cooperation between Toika and glassblowers.
The Karelian whooper swan is the national bird of Finland. The proud nature of the swan is a tribute to Karelia, the birthplace of Oiva Toika. The contrast between the snow-white body and the black beak emphasizes the bird’s reduced beauty.
