One of the most recognized works of Japanese art in the world, this woodblock print by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai captures an enormous wave cresting over three fishing boats off the coast in Sagami Bay. Featuring dramatic blue pigments with a tan, parchment-like backdrop, this artwork highlights the power of nature and Man’s frailty. This image circa 1832 was the first print in a series, Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.
