Charles and Ray Eames enriched the Eames House's interior decoration by adding numerous objects brought back from their extensive travels. In the centre of their living space has stood a black, wooden bird figurine for more than 50 years. Obviously, a piece of American folk art particularly treasured by Charles and Ray, which can be found in many photos of the designer couple.
The bird originally comes from the Appalachian Mountains in the north-east of the USA. Inspired by the original and in collaboration with the Eames family, Vitra is now mass-manufacturing the decorative figurine.
