Christel Marott created figurines of the twelve astrological signs of the Zodiac, supremely capturing the special characteristics of each one. Twelve girls appear in Christel’s own inimitable and sensual style, lovingly combining innocence and decadence. The signs of the Zodiac were made in Rome where, towards the end of her artistic career, Christel became more and more interested in sculptural work.
Christel Marott (1919-1992) was only seventeen when she made her debut as a self-conscious illustrator of weekly magazines, and throughout her life she carried on drawing illustrations for weeklies and fashion magazines. She signed her work Christel, and it became synonymous with alluring girls with long legs and a characteristic, vibrant sensuality. She studied at the academy of art in the city and went on to create a series of unique sculptures in ceramics.
