Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter, printmaker, and art theorist. He lived and works in Germany and France. Kandinsky was an expressionist artist, companion of abstract art and taught at the Bauhaus, among others. Kandinsky immerses us in his work in a cosmos of colors and shapes. He wanted to formulate a language that evokes strong emotions. The painting Composition VIII does just that. It was bought by Solomon R. Guggenheim in 1930 and was the beginning of a collection that is still on display at the Guggenheim in New York today.
